Specialty Shoes VS. Non Specialty Shoes

Since the late 70’s athletic footwear has become the focus on sports enhancement and fashion. Every shoe manufacturer claims their shoe is the best and all you have to do is put them on and fly like the wind.
They have convinced the public their shoes will take them to new heights in performance and will eliminate injury because their ‘high tech’ shoes are designed to compensate for anatomical imbalances and will help with proper distribution of body weight and running mechanics.
A recent study, reported in The American Journal of Sports Medicine, performed on 1,400 Marines indicated a different story. The test was based upon 12 weeks of basic training.
The group was divided in half. 50% wore the custom shoes and the remaining half wore simple tennis shoes.
Researchers found 42% of men in custom shoes were injured compared to 41% who wore plain and simple sneakers.
For women, 37% wearing custom shoes were injured versus 45% in ordinary shoes.
Here is the issue I have and have always had: If you are not properly conditioned, no shoe in the world will ever provide the proper compensation. Please refer to my articles on what conditioning really is.
Running mechanics and anatomical corrections must be developed through ‘real’ conditioning and with the help of professionals who work with movement dysfunction.
Here, at Primal, we emphasize the need for strong ankles and multi-functional strength & versatile strength which have, exclusively, been designed and implemented into our training regimens. These are the same training methods I use for Special Ops whose lives depend upon results that work!
Begin with strengthening your own body before you invest in a pair of high priced, flashy brand name shoes. It’s the person, not the shoe, who wins!
