All athletes can benefit from trail running for better sport performance and for recovery.
This applies to strength athletes; in particular sports such as power lifting, Olympic lifting, MMA, rugby, soccer and many more related sports.
Power lifters and Olympic lifters need to do trail running. Do not go out and run an all out 10k. Use variations which will enhance conditioning for lifting such as hill sprints or maybe an easy 1 miler for a recovery session.
Hill sprints from 25 meters to 80 meters rapidly pay rewards for all strength athletes.
Too many strength based athletes give me the excuse they’re too big or too heavy to run and they’re afraid they’ll hurt their knees or low back.
If you are concerned about those issues, then, you are not well conditioned or you are just too lazy.
Therefore, get over it, admit you have weaknesses and do something about it!
Check out the video. I’m demonstrating hill sprints on Death Valley sand dunes in summer.
Also, running is the #1 exercise for children. It’s great for building overall health & athleticism. Just as with more mature athletes, kids can run short sprints & long runs. Just have them run; anytime, anywhere and any distance!
The added intensity of sprinting on sand bumps up your level of conditioning a few notches with great rewards.
