What Are the Benefits of Conditioning?

If you’ve been an avid reader of PrimalFitness-Systems.com, you know I’m big on “conditioning”.
To quickly refresh your memory, conditioning is a program which enhances sport specific and task specific skills & performance.
It’s not teaching technical applications such as swinging a bat, throwing a ball, different stages of the 100m sprint or swimming efficiency.
Conditioning is elevating the body’s ability to be stronger, faster, quicker recovery and developing co-ordination.
Conditioning can increase the CNS’s ability to handle more work and increase blood flow to the working muscles. As the capacity for motor unit firing develops and heart rate increases its ability to pump a higher percentage of blood while the lungs are able to supply greater oxygen throughout the body, it all equates to greater performance on the track, the court, the field and everyday life.
One of the most important aspects of a good conditioning program is that the exercises are multi task in nature. These exercises are ones which all or nearly all the planes of motion are integrated into a single exercise to be completed. The squat & dead lift move up & down; which is only one plane of movement. Running is only one plane of movement; forward motion. These are all good exercises when applied for a specific need, however, none of them are multi task.
Use exercises which call upon multiple motor patterns to accomplish a given task.
Conditioning makes everything else easier.
Below is a classic example of multi-task exercises which I use for the Pararescue men in the Air Force Special Forces Unit. It includes multiple motor skills along with many energy systems to accomplish the task.
